Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh went to polls on November 9 for its 68-member legislative assembly and the results will be announced on December 18. A turnout of 75 percent was recorded after polling took place across 7,521 polling stations in 68 constituencies. A total of 337 candidates contested for the elections including current Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal and 62 sitting MLAs from the state. For the first time, the election commission used VVPAT machines to bring transparency in the voting procedure. The election body also introduced live webcasts from 2,300 polling stations to ensure free and fair polling across the state’s 12 districts. Exit polls have suggested that the BJP is headed for a landslide victory in the state trouncing the incumbent Congress.
